Home repair in Bethesda, MD
Bethesda houses come in three ages. Colonials and bungalows from the 1920s to the 1950s near downtown and along Bradley Boulevard, with plaster walls, radiators and original wood windows. Split levels and ramblers from the 1950s and 1960s farther out. And the new builds replacing them lot by lot. The repair calls come mostly from the first two.
Or call or text (240) 858-0149. Hours 8 to 6, Monday through Saturday.
Plaster, radiators and the trail side basements
Plaster is the big one. A 1930s Bethesda colonial has lath and plaster that cracks along the lath lines and pulls away from the ceiling. We reattach with plaster washers, fill with a setting compound, and skim so the repair reads flat under eggshell paint. Radiator covers, picture rail, and the mortise locks on the original doors are the rest of the list.
The 1920s and 1930s houses near the Capital Crescent Trail have a basement that was finished in the 1980s, and the drywall at the bottom of those walls wicks moisture from the block. We cut the bottom foot out, install a PVC base, and patch above it so the wall stops bubbling.

The specialist crews in Montgomery
Bethesda owners ask
- Can you repair plaster or does it have to come down?
- Repair, in most cases. Loose plaster gets screwed back to the lath with plaster washers, cracks get a setting compound and mesh, and the area gets skimmed. Only plaster that has lost its key over a large area comes down.
- Do you work around radiators and old wood windows?
- Yes. We keep the original parts where they work, re glaze a sash, re cord a weight, and swap only what is broken.
- Does Montgomery County need a permit for small repairs?
- Not for repairs and fixture swaps. Electrical, plumbing and structural changes do, and the licensed trade pulls it.
